How To Be Playful On The Phone

There are so many good examples of how to be playful on the phone…
here's just one.

This is something my buddy in Seattle started doing every time he
got my voicemail, and now it's just habit whenever he calls, or I
call him. Singing. The key to it is you can't plan out what the song
will be before you call… you just wait until the other person
picks up and start with whatever is in mind.

Last week it came out "Lights," by Journey. He returned the favor
with "Sweet Caroline." See, now that's a call that I want to take.

With my girlfriend, I use just a couple of very simple tricks (an
no, she's not an immature bubble-head. She is in fact a scientist
who grew up in a conservative Chinese-Indonesian family who
constantly claims she needs to be in control of everything, so she's
on the opposite end of the scale from your standard fibbertigibbet).

  1. Every call, ask what she's wearing. Proudly stolen from Juggler.
Did this on my first call with her and got the answer "um… well…
I just got out of the shower…" Keep a smile on your face when
asking. Don't want to sound like your taking a survey here.
  2. At the very beginning of the call, describe something that either
happened to you today or is happening right now. Women want to know
what you are doing, so tell them… but make it entertaining. Last
week I told her my dog may be developing an intense crush on me, cos
when I came home from playing with other dogs at the spca, she
sniffed me obsessively, peed on my foot, and stalked off pouting.
Was it true? Nope. But it was funny.
  3. Tell her you were thinking about her. Don't elaborate. Just those
few words… "hey, i was just thinking about you." You'll make her
    week.
  4. Don't be afraid to drop sexy hints on the phone. Not double-
entendre or puns, but little things like "your lips are so soft… i
could kiss them all night. so did i tell you what my goddaughter did
    at the supermarket today?"

Make it fun. It ain't a competition… to paraphrase a line from one
of my favorite books, "Some Can Whistle," by Larry McMurtry,

"Stupid men and their stupid words. Who wants to listen to a man
talk about stuff. Shoot, I wish a man would just come ask me to
dance right now."

Don't just talk when you call. Dance with her… use your brain for
something fun for once.
